Barrier Gates

Our barrier gates come in several models according to the width of the roadway to be covered, how it is to be used (single direction or double direction), the number of vehicle detectors, and the types of the control devices.

A single direction gate is normally one which has an access control device to cause it to open and a vehicle detector to make it close automatically.  This can be for vehicles entering the facility or exiting the facility.  A single direction gate can also have a “free open” vehicle detector to allow for automatic opening as the vehicle approaches.  A double direction gate (2 way) is one where the vehicle uses the same gate to enter and to exit.  The gate can have an access control device to enter and to exit or an access control device to enter and a “free open” vehicle to exit.  Barrier gates also can be controlled by a switch in the security office to raise and lower or a pushbutton to raise and a vehicle detector to automatically close.

The access control devices can be card readers, radio transmitters, or money collecting stations.  Vehicle detectors can be loop detectors, photocells, or microwave/PIR devices.

The “high speed” barrier gate uses a 10’ or 12’ arm; either wood, aluminum, or PVC.  The arm is available in the “folding” (articulating) model for low clearance inside parking structure.  This models will open or close in 1.5 seconds and has a number of features including battery backup, obstruction senor, and an aluminum cabinet.   The next step up in arm length is 15’ which requires 4 seconds to open or close.  It has the same features as the model with the 12’ arm.  The additional weight of the arm is offset by a counterweight concealed in the end of the aluminum gate arm.

The models which allow for 20’ arms usually have an internal spring counterbalance to offset the weight of the single aluminum tube arm.  Operating time is 6 seconds.

The “industrial” barrier gate uses a “wishbone” wooden gate arm.  The wishbone comes out from both sides of the barrier gate cabinet and join together about 16’ into the driveway.  A single bladed arm then extends out to make the arm a maximum of 24.’  Operating time is 11 seconds.  The arm has external counterweights.

All of our barrier gates can work with access control devices and vehicle detectors.  They are also available with flashing warning lights.  Standard operating voltage is 120VAC, 60Hz.
